Jafri, a well-known trade unionist and a former MP of Congress Party, was one of
the 2000 Muslims massacred during the most savage anti-Muslim riots in the
western Indian state of Gujarat.
On 28 February
2002 a frenzied mob lays siege to his house; drags him out; chops his fingers;
mutilates his body; makes him walk naked; amputates his hands and feet; then
roasts him alive along with other inmates who had taken shelter in his house.
